Educated as a graphic designer, I began quilting in 1993 when I took my first quilt class at the local high school. Once my job as a creative director went completely digital I longed for a creative outlet that utilized the precision, color and measuring work that I employed in my professional life. Quilting gave that back to me.
Never looking back, I have been an avid quilter and needle artist, always seeking new challenges. I’ve studied appliqué extensively at the Elly Sinkeiwicz Appliqué Academy along with a variety of national and international teachers. I also study quilts and coverlets at the Metropolitan Museum of Art Antonio Ratti Textile Center.
I joined the EGA (Embroiderer’s Guild of America) in 2002 and began learning embroidery techniques and moved into wool appliqué. Since 2006 I have been teaching felted wool appliqué at regional, national and international seminars and I launched my own series of original designs in felted wool appliqué with embroidery embellishments.
My area of specialization is the creation of a sculptural look to wool appliqué by using my signature needle slanting techniques and the layering and stuffing of appliqué pieces. My designs feature matching and overdyed wool threads and embroidery embellishments which enhance and define the clarity of my subject reflective of my roots in fabric appliqué and Baltimore album.
In 2015 I published my first book Gorgeous Wool Appliqué and in 2016 my second book, Dimension in Wool Appliqué Baltimore Style was released. Both books are visual guides as I am a visual learner and believe many people learn best this way. I enjoy taking photographs of my work at different stages and take great pleasure in sharing what I have learned with others.
